The Wildcats and Ladycats of WCHS took wins at Collinwood on Friday with the Ladycats taking an easy win over the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers and the Wildcats downing the team from Shoals Christian School from Alabama. The teams were not so lucky on Saturday as they both dropped games against the teams from Richland. They will resume action on January 2, 2020 as they host Decatur/Riverside in a game postponed from last week because of stormy weather. On Friday the 3rd, they will host Lewis County. The Ladycats are now 7 – 2 on the year, while the ‘Cats are 3 – 7.
The Ladycats jumped out to a 22 – 4 lead against the Lady Tigers after one quarter of action. They upped the margin to 37 – 13 by the half, on their way to a 68 – 24 win. Kelley Baugus and Michaela Gallian each scored 15 points to lead the Ladycats. Lauren Bryant and Savanna McClain each hit for 10 points to also score in double-digits. Baugus had a steal and 6 assists, while Gallian had 5 boards, 2 steals and 2 assists. Bryant had 6 rebounds, a steal, and 2 assists, and McClain had 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and an assist. Lexie Lee had 5 points with 3 reobunds. Sallie Bundrant had 4 points, and Cambree Camfield had 4 points with 5 rebounds a steal, and an assist. Henley Floyd had 3 points with an assist. Allie Hill scored 2 points and had 2 rebounds. Annie Lee had 3 rebounds, and Celia Powell had an assist. The Ladycats hit 49.2% from the field and forced 22 Lady Tiger turnovers.
The Wildcats got off to a slow start against the Shoals Christian team on Friday, trailing 9 – 6 at the end of the first quarter. In the second, they outscored them 13 – 9, to take a 19 – 18 halftime lead. The Wildcats went on to take the win by the final score of 53 – 41.
Tyler Moser had a game high 18 points to lead the Wildcats. He also recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds, and had 2 blocks, a steal, and an assist. Ethan Camfield and Adam Goss hit for double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively. Camfield had 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and an assist, while Goss had 4 boards, 2 steals, and 3 assists. Austin Whitson came off the bench to score 6 points and had 5 boards, a block, and an assist. Cade Crews scored 5 points and had 6 rebounds and an assist. Wyatt Kelley had 2 points, 5 boards, a block, 2 steals, and an assist, and Gaynes Keaton had one point with 2 steals and an assist. Braxton Buter had one assist, and Eli McClain had 2 rebounds, as the ‘Cats won the battle of the boards, 38 – 26.
The Ladycats fell behind early against the Lady Raiders and never recovered as the Lady Raiders avenged an earlier loss to the Ladycats. The final score was 56 – 51, with 13% shooting from 3-point range and 15 turnovers hampering the Ladycat effort. Twenty-six free throws for the Lady Raiders also contributed to the difference. The Ladycats were led in scoring by Kelley Baugus with 17 points. She had a rebound, 3 steals, and an assist. Savanna McClain hit for 13 points with 7 boards, 2 steals, and an assist. Michaela Gallian scored 8 points and had 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist, and Cambree Camfield had 6 points, 5 rebounds, and an assist. Lauren Bryant had 3 points with a rebound, 3 steals, and 2 assists, and Lexie Lee and Charli Woodside each scored 2 points. Lee had 3 boards, while Woodside had 1. Henley Floyd had a steal and an assist.
The Wildcats trailed 27 – 4 at the end of the first quarter and went on to trail 42 – 14 by the half. They fell to the Raiders 74 – 40. Tyler Moser scored 15 points to lead the ‘Cats. He had 8 rebounds. Adam Goss scored 6 points and had 2 rebounds a steal, and 2 assists. Ethan Camfield had 5 points with 3 rebounds, and Braxton Butler and Austin Whitson each scored 3 points. Whitson also had 3 boards and a steal. Cade Crews had 3 points with 2 rebounds and an assist. Eli McClain had 2 points with a rebound. Wyatt Kelley had 2 points with 3 rebounds and a steal. Freshman Jesse Dixon scored one point, while freshman Carson Prater and Dawson Willis each had a rebound. Gaynes Keaton also had a rebound. The Wildcats suffered 24 turnovers in the contest.
