2019-20 WCHS Basketball Season Starts This Week

   The 2019 – 2020 Wayne County High School basketball season begins this week as the teams travel for TSSAA Hall of Fame games on Saturday. The Ladycats will go to Gleason to play Saturday, while the Wildcats will travel to Clarksburg. Game time is 11:30 a.m. for the Ladycats, and 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. for the Wildcats. Regular season action will begin at home on Monday night, November 25th, as the teams host Hampshire. On Tuesday night, they will travel to Parsons to take on the teams of Decatur/Riverside.

   The WCHS Ladycats, coming off a 10 – 19 season a year ago, will be led by three senior squad members. Kelley Baugus returns as last year’s leading scorer, averaging 9.4 ppg. Baugus also averaged 3.8 rebounds and had a team high 49 assists and 46 steals. Henley Floyd averaged 4.8 ppg last year, hitting a team high 41 three-pointers. Lexie Lee, coming off ankle surgery that limited her to participation in only two games last year, is the third senior Ladycat. Charlie Woodside, Sallie Bundrant, and Allie Hill are the junior members of the squad. The sophomore class consists of Michaela Gallian (7.8 ppg, 4.0 rpg), Cambree Camfield (3.3 ppg, 2.5 rpg), Savanna McClain, and Jamie Lauren Hickman. The newest members of the Ladycat squad, the freshmen, are Lauren Prater, Alexis Maghelse, Celia Powell, Lauren Bryant, Cimmie Willis, Kylee Brewer, Kelsey Carroll, Annie Lee, and Bailey Kilburn. The Ladycats are under the direction of second year coach, Molly Ashley, with Scott Ashley as her assistant. Managers for the Ladycats this year are Hanna Bevis, Katie Bundrant, and Landon Floyd.

   The Wildcats, coming off an 17 – 8 season a year ago, have a lot of rebuilding to do as they graduated five seniors last year. There are three senior team members this year. Adam Goss (1.8 ppg, 1.1 rpg), Wyatt Kelley (1.2 ppg, 1.3 rpg), and Cordell Littrell represent the senior class. Junior squad members are Clay Baugus (4.9 ppg, 2.9 rpg), Gaynes Keaton, Braxton Butler, and Cade Crews. Sophomores are Carson Prater, Ethan Camfield, Tyler Moser, and Dawson Willis. Freshman Wildcats this season will be Eli McClain, Austin Whitson, Jesse Dixon, Preston Stegall, Landyn Prater, and Avery Wilson. The Wildcats will again be coached by Ryan Franks, with David Sisk, Charlie Mosley, and Caleb Keating assisting. Waylon Downs, Jr. will be the manager for the ‘Cats.

   The basketball cheerleaders will be Chloe Skelton, Kasee Johnson, Kassidy Gresham, Mary Kate Andrews, Brooke Byrd, Camryn Holder, Autumn Harrison, Alex Hollis, Madison Gobbell, McKaya Bright, Autumn Clayton, Carlie Staggs, Isabelle Davis, and Olivia Gobbell. The cheerleaders are coached by Tara Hollis and Anna Beth Haggard.
