The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce held their first ever “Car-B-Que” in the Waynesboro City park on Saturday, May 15th. The event began at 11:00 a.m. with classic cars filling the park upon their immaculate arrival, along with 27 vendors and four cooking teams.

There were an estimated 80-plus classic cars, which went beyond expectations. The winners were as follows: 1st place: 1965 red Corvette/Johnny and Terrie Sue Crittenden, 2nd place: 1948 red Cadillac Convertible/Neil Bishop, 3rd place: 1970 purple Plymouth Barracuda (aka Cuda)/Darrell Culberson, People’s Choice: 1969 Chevy Camaro/Colby McDonald.

Due to the overwhelming response, next year’s event will divide the cars into their own categories for the opportunity to take home more prizes.

The BBQ cookers were located in the RV part of the park to allow access to water and electricity, along with much needed shade for those people near the flames. The categories for judging were chicken, ribs and Boston butt. The winners were: Chicken category: 1st place: Turney Center Annex/Clifton Site, 2nd place: Byron Skelton, 3rd place: Fat Boys Cooking Team. Ribs category: 1st place: Turney Center Annex/Clifton Site, 2nd Place: Byron Skelton, 3rd place: William and Katherine Sparks. Boston Butt category: 1st place: Turney Center Annex/Clifton Site, 2nd place: William and Katherine Sparks, 3rd place: Byron Skelton. People’s Choice: William and Katherine Sparks.

Grand Champion, winning the $1000 prize, was Turney Center Annex/Clifton Division.
